My brother-in-law wants to buy one of these, 2014 or later,
with the 2.1
-liter 7-speed. Any thoughts or experience I can share with him?

For commercial or passenger use?
I am a huge fan of the 4x4s in passenger spec.

Check the lower control arm bushings. Had one fail on me. I turned left, and it wanted to go forward and to the right. The van decided to take a knee in protest. Code brown.

Rust would be my main concern. I live in the snow belt and it seems that all the sprinters (old and newer) have been eaten through by the tin worm. And it it would be understandable if it was limited to the areas around the wheeel wells or rockers, but I often see holes in random areas above the belt line, middles of the doors, etc
I can’t recall seeing rust like that on a contemporary chevy or ford full size van.
Otherwise, I dig the tall narrow proportions of these. Not sure how the costs compare, but if it were me, I would hold out for a newer Transit

If he lives where road salt is a thing, these evaporate almost as quickly as vans like your Rusty did.

To modify for camping.

friend of mine did a custom camping rig and chose one...he researches everything intensely so if he found this to be the best solution it probably is. Previously he had a VW Westfalia Syncro with a Subaru H6 in it. But it was too old and broke too much for his liking.

So you’re saying he went with the Sprinter? Where does he live?

yes, he lives in the San Francisco region. He and hi s wife do quite a bit of kayaking and mountain biking, so he went with a 4 wheel drive for the trails down to the rivers when necessary. I tried to find the photos he sent me to post but can’t seem to locate them.
